Commerce7 vs WineDirect for a Canadian winery
Updated
Commerce7 and WineDirect are the two platforms most wineries compare when they want to sell direct. Both run an online store, a wine club, and a tasting room point of sale from one customer list. The real differences are price, how each one fits your website, and how much it does for a Canadian winery out of the box.
For most B.C. wineries with an existing website, Commerce7 is the easier fit. It publishes Canadian dollar prices, it has a low cost plan for small wineries, and it handles Canadian sales tax by destination. WineDirect makes more sense when you want the store and the website in one package.
What both platforms do
Both platforms cover the same core jobs:
- Selling wine online
- Running wine club signups, shipments, and renewals
- Ringing up sales in the tasting room, which pairs with tasting room bookings
- Keeping one customer record across all three
- Reporting on sales and club members
Both say every plan includes the full feature set. You pay more as your sales grow, not to get more features.
Commerce7 pricing in 2026
Commerce7 lists these plans on its pricing page, and it shows the same numbers in Canadian dollars:
| Plan | Yearly direct sales | Monthly fee | Transaction fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | Up to $100,000 | $59 | 0% |
| Basic | Up to $600,000 | $149 | 1.5% |
| Pro | Up to $4 million | $399 | 1% |
| Experience | $4 million to $6 million | $1,249 | 0.75% |
| Enterprise | Over $6 million | Custom | Custom |
Contracts are month to month. The Lite plan is open to wineries in Canada and the United States.
WineDirect pricing in 2026
WineDirect lists three plans. Each one has a one time onboarding fee:
| Plan | Yearly sales | Monthly fee | Transaction fee | Onboarding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DTC Starter | Up to $200,000 | $79 | 2% | $399 |
| DTC Pro | $200,000 to $4 million | $199 | 1% | $999 |
| DTC Advanced | Over $4 million | Custom | Custom | From $2,500 |
WineDirect does not name a currency on its pricing page or in its billing FAQ. The company is based in California, and the FAQ sends anyone who wants another currency to its accounting team. Plan on US dollars unless WineDirect quotes you in Canadian dollars. WineDirect does have an office in Vancouver, and its Canadian roots run through Vin65, the Abbotsford winery software company it bought. Fulfillment services are a separate quote.
What each one costs at three sizes
Here is the first year cost from the published fees alone. Commerce7 prices are in Canadian dollars. WineDirect prices are most likely in US dollars, so they will cost more once exchanged. Card processing is extra on both, so ask each company for that rate.
| Yearly direct sales | Commerce7 | WineDirect |
|---|---|---|
| $80,000 | $708 (Lite) | $2,947 (Starter) |
| $300,000 | $6,288 (Basic) | $6,387 (Pro) |
| $1,000,000 | $14,788 (Pro) | $13,387 (Pro) |
Small wineries save the most with Commerce7, because Lite charges no transaction fee. At a few hundred thousand dollars, the two are close. At a million dollars and up, WineDirect’s numbers look a little lower. If you pay WineDirect in US dollars, the exchange rate can erase that gap.
Canadian sales tax
Commerce7 says its tax reporting covers Canadian taxes. You can set GST, PST, HST, or RST rates and apply them by shipping destination.
WineDirect lets you set GST, PST, and HST for each province. Its own documentation says it does not give tax advice. You research the rate for each province and enter it yourself.
Either way, your accountant should check the rates before your first shipment.
Shipping to other provinces
Shipping rules between provinces are still changing. As of early 2026, people in B.C., Manitoba, and Nova Scotia could buy wine direct from a winery anywhere in Canada. Alberta and Saskatchewan had their own arrangements with B.C. Other provinces still had barriers or extra taxes. Business in Vancouver covered the state of play in February 2026.
Both platforms let you turn shipping on or off for each province. Check the current rules with Wine Growers British Columbia before you open a new province.
How each one fits your website
This is the difference most owners feel day to day.
Commerce7 is built to sit inside the website you already have. Your site keeps its own design, and the store, cart, and club signup show up on its pages. You can change the website without touching the store.
WineDirect includes website templates. The store and the website can live in one system, which suits a winery that wants one login and one bill. The trade off is less control over how the site looks and how fast it loads.
Which one to pick
Pick Commerce7 if:
- You sell less than $100,000 direct a year
- You want prices in Canadian dollars up front
- You already have a website you like, or plan to build one
Pick WineDirect if:
- You want the store and the website in one system
- You sell more than $1 million direct a year and WineDirect quotes you a better rate
- You plan to use its fulfillment services
Whichever platform you choose, the website still does the selling. Every wine page needs a buy button, and every page needs a way to join the club. Our checklist covers what every winery website needs to sell wine direct. Lark connects either platform to your website and styles the store to match, so guests never feel handed off to another site.
